Golden rays scatter the shadows across my room like a kaleidoscope of sunrise. Today is supposed to be warmer, clear and sunny, and the snow should start to melt. What that means for me, I don’t know.

Last night, Bastien and I talked for hours until he was called away for work again. What ‘work’ requires his attention in the middle of the night, I also don’t know.

For each thing Bastien shared with me last night, more questions emerged. Maybe that’s just how it feels when you actually want to know someone.

But for now, things are complicated. Bastien and I are something, but I’m not sure what. I don’t have any healthy relationship experiences to pull from. Am I still forbidden to leave? Do I want to leave? What about my new job? What happens when Bastien returns to the city? Do all relationships feel like this? Like a cyclone of doubt and desire? Because I’m pretty sure there’s nothing I wouldn’t do to have his mouth between my thighs again. To have more than just his tongue and fingers inside me. To have more of him in every way possible.

I’m so fucked. Or maybe that’s exactly what I need to purge this haze from my brain and the constant burn from my core.

Bastien is the ultimate temptation, my perfect poison. Why I’m racing toward my death with him is beyond me. But I’ve never claimed to be sane.

Taming my unruly curls as best I can, my penance for allowing my hair to air dry, I stand up straight and summon every thread of courage I can. Today, I will seek out Bastien to demand my freedom. And access to the internet. I’m fucking done being a prisoner.

Stomping down the stairs, I make no effort to be quiet. I want everyone to know I’m here and unhappy. Unlucky for him, but not surprising, Will is the first person I see.

“Morning, Sadie. Are you hungry?”

“Well, aren’t you chipper this morning?”

“I had a great night. I heard you did as well.”

“What? Did Bastien say something?”

“He didn’t have to. My room is next to yours and you weren’t exactly quiet.” Will waggles his eyebrows and smiles. “I saved you some waffles.”

“Great, now I need a new room. Where’s Bastien?”

“He’s working but said he’ll be home for dinner.”

“Aww, did he? How sweet.” My eyes narrow as I scowl.

Will exhales and drags his hand down his face. “He’s dealing with some heavy work stuff right now.”

“Isn’t he always? That man is a work-a-holic. We haven’t even had one uninterrupted night together.”

“If he needs more than an hour to put you to sleep, then he’s doing something wrong.”

“Not everything is about sex.”

“So you want to talk and snuggle then?” Will smiles and hip bumps me again, but this time I brace myself so I don’t go flying.

“Will—”

“What’s that sound? I think our waffles are crying because they’re getting cold. I got you extra whipped cream and berries.”

“Fine, I’ll eat. But we are talking about this the moment we’re done.
